New paper in Cell: 'Friction Mediates Scission of Tubular Membranes Scaffolded by BAR Proteins&#
In this study published in Cell on July 29th 2017, we characterized in details and fully reconstituted the new Friction-Driven Scission mechanism (or FDS)! It is the follow-up of our paper published in Nature in 2015, where we proposed for the first time this previously unnoticed membrane fission mechanism to work in the scission of endocytic tubules of Shiga toxin at plasma membrane. Basically, friction of a BAR domain-containing protein scaffold on the underlying lipids combined to the pulling force of molecular motors allows mechanical breaking of the membrane tubule.
